Cuomo’s campaign quickly responded, calling it “stupid.”

Mamdani said he would be Trump’s “worst nightmare” if elected in November. Trump has repeatedly criticized Mamdani, calling him a “100% Communist madman.”

Cuomo promised to protect New York City from what he believed would be future federal crackdown on immigration protests if elected mayor. He vowed to host a national campaign in an attempt to block Trump’s agenda.

But last month, Mamdani beat Cuomo and nine other candidates to win the Democratic nomination, which shocked the mayor with the most populous city in the country.

As Cuomo resets as an independent candidate in the mayoral election, mentions of Trump plummeted.

Adams is also an independent candidate. Especially in immigration, the current mayor has established a relationship with Trump.
