A U.S. team investigating Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes asked the executor of his estate to produce a number of documents, including a book that is said to contain personal information about his 50th birthday.
The subpoena of the House Oversight Committee head James Comer represents an extension of his investigation into Epstein, a later pedophile financier.
Last month, the Wall Street Journal reported that his colleague Ghislaine Maxwell’s birthday book, created in 2003, contained various submissions from Epstein’s acquaintances, including allegedly bearing the name Donald Trump, who was his friend.
Trump denied writing any such letter.
The president said the so-called notes were “fake” and began a libel process against the journal’s parent company and its owner, Rupert Murdoch. The company, Dow Jones, insisted on its report and vowed to fight legal cases.
Comer’s subpoena asked the executor of Epstein’s property to provide “all entries included in the leather-bound book compiled by Ghislaine Maxwell”. It gives a September 8 deadline, and the project is about to tip over.
An attorney at Epstein Manor confirmed the request was received and said the executor would “comply with all legal procedures in the matter, including a subpoena of the committee.”
In other papers, it also requires Epstein to execute any non-disclosure agreements over a three-year period, before his will died in prison in 2019.
It further requires “any document or record of a list of clients that may be reasonably construed as participatory, sexual conduct or sexual trafficking”.
It was suggested that the unpublished Epstein document might contain a so-called list of clients, except for the high-profile employees in Maxwell’s criminal action.
However, the U.S. Department of Justice and the FBI said there is no such list.
In her case, Maxwell also denied that he had a list when he was serving in prison for his involvement in Epstein’s crimes, which was recently questioned by U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) officials.
But the conspiracy theory still exists.
For weeks, Trump has been plagued by the term “Epstein Archives” as pressure from his supporters and famous figures of his own Republican Party has increased to increase transparency about previous investigations into Epstein.
As part of his own investigation, Comer earlier issued subpoena to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and to former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
It is reported that Trump himself was told in May by Attorney General Pam Bondi that his name appeared in documents related to the investigation.
He was a friend of Epstein, who, according to Trump, fell a few years ago around 2004. Being named in the archives is not evidence of any criminal activity, nor has it been charged with wrongdoing related to Epstein.
Trump said he would be willing to provide more information to the public during his campaign for the presidency. But he recently changed his stance, saying the case was closed and criticizing his supporters for continuing to put pressure on him.
