A Democratic state legislator spent the night on the floor of the Texas House, rejecting Republican-imposed police escorts to prevent her and her Democratic colleagues from leaving the state again as Republicans hope to re-report Congressional District.
Democratic Rep. Nicole Collier stays Texas Capitol Monday night and Tuesday. The house was not intended to be called again until Wednesday, before the map was scheduled to be voted on.
Collier, representing a minority district in Fort Worth Fort, said she was “refusing to sign dignity” and called herself a political prisoner. FOX4 Dallas-Fort Worth Report.
Democratic lawmakers at the state capitol said Texas Department of Public Safety officials followed them around Monday, either guarding their offices or staying in them and then delaying them as they leave. They said they had to sign a “permit form” and be monitored to leave the building.

This is after a two-week standoff between Republican leaders in Texas and dozens of Texas Democratic caucus members who fled the state to deny the legislature’s adoption President Donald Trump supports the redivision billwhich could provide the Republicans with five congressional seats.

After Democrats fled, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and other Republican leaders vowed not to back down, threatening to evacuate them from the office and arrest them.

The special meeting ended Friday; however, Abbott played a second special meeting and began immediately. The Texas Senate has voted to pass the measure.
