The U.S. president said he had called Putin and started to arrange a meeting between the Russian president and Ukrainian leaders, saying: “We all obviously prefer an immediate ceasefire… so far, that has not happened.” However, French and German leaders refused to accept the failure of the issue. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz insists that “we all want to see a ceasefire” and he can’t imagine not attending the next meeting. French President Emmanuel Macron also supports the idea of a “truce” as “necessity”.
