Former President Barack Obama A group of Democratic Texas lawmakers fled the state to stop voting on the redivision bill, calling their actions “inspiring.”
Texas Rep. Gene Wu, chairman of the Democratic Caucus in Texas, posted on X on Thursday, thanking the former president for meeting with lawmakers via Zoom.
Wu said Obama’s words “encourage” Democrats to “encourage” and “still committed to fighting democracy in Texas and across the country.”
ABC News A spokesman for Obama confirmed the meeting, saying he “commended their efforts with the Republican Party to enact a more serious Grimander in Texas by the mid-term.”

The spokesman told the media that Obama “has made it clear that they are part of a bigger effort to protect freedom and fair elections and praised them for inspiring others with their actions.”
It’s amidst the ongoing confrontation between Texas Republicans and Democrats, an effort supported by the president Donald Trump Passing a redistricting bill could provide Republicans with five seats in Congress. More than 50 Democratic members of the Texas House fled the state, denying the quorum required by the legislature to pass the bill.
In response, Republican leaders in Texas have filed legal proceedings to force AWOL lawmakers to return and threaten that they will also threaten to remove them if they continue to refuse to participate in the legislative process.
The Texas House Democrats issued a statement Thursday that they announced that they would return to the state only if the Legislature agrees not to plan to meet again or California introduces its own redistricting legislation to “neutralize” the Republican seats they have won in Texas.

Obama had previously expressed reputation with Texas Democrats and said in an August 5 post: “We can’t lose focus on what’s important – Currently, Texas Republicans are trying to unfairly win five seats in next year’s midterm elections. It’s a powerful power to snatch our Democrats.”
Wu told ABC News that Democrats were “specially excited” to address them via Zoom.
“Having President Obama talks to us and supports us is a testament to the fact that Texas House Democrats are not alone when they stand up and fight back – we are supported by Democrats at every level, and they know that when Republicans attack Texas’ voting rights, they attacked Democratic Foundations everywhere in Texas,” Wu told the media.
He said the meeting was held via Zoom because of the “Republican threat.”

“We have to meet President Obama from an undisclosed location, and the fact that the Republican threat and surveillance only proves the despair of Abbott and its extremist allies,” Wu said. “They know that their racially critical plans are breaking down, so they are using intimidation tactics. But President Obama’s support shows that the whole country is watching – Texas House Democrats will not be silent by bullies.”

California Democratic governor Thursday Gavin Newsom The announced plan opposes the Texas reallocation plan by pushing for his state to revise to eliminate Republican seats.
In response, the Senator Ted CruzR-Texas will open back, and if California eliminates all its Republican areas, Texas should do the same, which will give Republicans net net gains.
