Vice President JD Vance Preparing to meet with the U.S. military at a military facility in England on Wednesday – a high-risk trip with European leaders was discussed with European leaders to discuss the war in Ukraine. Donald Trump’s Friday meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin.
Vance’s visit to the UK was because he tried to lay the foundation for European allies before talking to the European allies in Anchorage, Alaska – and because of the conflict in their backyard, he increased their heat to them to gain greater ownership in the discussion.
The vice president plans to visit Fairford, England’s RAF base on Wednesday, both the 501st Combat Support Unit and the 99th Expedition Reconnaissance Squadron are based. The former Marines are expected to appreciate their service, according to sources familiar with Vance’s prepared remarks.
Vladimir Putin returns to us for the first time in a decade
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy (L) met with U.S. Vice President JD Vance (R) at Chevening Chevening House in southeast England on August 8, 2025.
Military devices are a key location for the U.S. Air Force operations and are the preferred bomber forward operation base for the Air Force Global Strike Command in Europe. U.S. Air Force bombers regularly use it as part of European bomber task force to integrate with NATO allies and enhance the service’s global strike capabilities.
A few days after Putin’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, several Air Force B-52H Stratofortress bombers from Fairford conducted joint operations with Germany and Romania on the eastern side of NATO.
According to the Foreign Relations Committee, a foreign policy think tank, there are about 10,000 U.S. troops in the UK.
Before addressing the U.S. military, Vance is preparing to convene with European leaders to discuss the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Fox News Digital learned.
These calls followed closely after several other discussions with European allies during Vance’s British visit. Vance met with several British leaders, including British Foreign Secretary David Lammy.
A U.S. official told Fox News Digital that Vance and Lammy discussed the relationship between the United States and the economic and technological goals shared by the two allies at the meeting Friday at Chevening House, Lammy’s official residence in Kent, England.
Putin’s summit will become Trump’s agenda this week when the Ukrainian war becomes the center stage

US Vice President JD Vance and British Foreign Secretary David Lammy at Chevening House held in Sevenoaks, England on August 8, 2025.
At the same time, the two leaders also discussed the situation in the Middle East and the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
The two also met with representatives from Ukraine and other European allies at Chevening House on Saturday. A U.S. official said the meeting led to “significant progress” to end the Ukrainian conflict.
No other details about the Ukrainian talks were provided. It is not clear whether Vance will accompany Trump to Alaska for talks with Putin.
However, Vance said in an interview with Fox News that he communicated to European leaders about the United States that the United States was “completed under the funding of Ukrainian war operations” and that European allies must assume greater responsibility to end the conflict.
“First of all, what we say to Europeans is simply on your neck, it’s on your back door, you have to strengthen and play a bigger role in this matter, and if you care so much about this conflict, you should be willing to do a more direct, more substantial way toward this war on Sunday.”
According to the Foreign Relations Commission, Congress has passed several measures to support Ukraine, with a total of at least $175 billion in aid to Ukraine since February 2022.

Meanwhile, Trump told reporters on Monday that he knew that within minutes Putin was actually interested in the deal. Nevertheless, he said Moscow and Kiev had to resolve some of the “exchange land” issues before they could be signed in the deal.
“If it’s a good deal, I’ll reveal it to EU leaders and NATO leaders and President Zelensky,” Trump said. “I might say, ‘A lot of luck, keep fighting’, or I might say we can make a deal.”
Trump’s meeting with Putin has also come as his relations with the Russian leader deteriorated and lagged behind with peace talks. While the two seem to be openly maintaining a affectionate attitude toward each other in Trump’s first administration, changes have taken place in recent weeks as Trump becomes increasingly tired of Putin’s strategy.
“If you want to know the truth, Putin gets a lot of bulls,” Trump said at a cabinet meeting on July 8.
