“Today, the American Party was formed to restore your freedom,” Musk said in a July 5 post.
According to experts, while there is interest in third parties in the United States, Musk’s so-called American Party is unlikely to cheer on, and tech tycoons will be better at driving reforms in the Republican driving reforms.
“Elon’s efforts will be nowhere to go,” Republican strategist Matt Gorman said in an email to Fox News Digital. “But I have no doubt that this will allow a lot of advisors to gain abundance of speed in the process.”

Meanwhile, Gorman said the candidate undoubtedly prefers Trump’s approval rather than Musk’s financial support. Musk is the largest donor in the 2024 election cycle, donating about $295 million to Republicans.
“If you choose between Trump’s approval or Elon’s $20 million ad, it’s not even a game,” Gorman said. “They accept Trump’s approval every time.”
Political columnist Kristin Tate said that while Musk helped push wealthy Silicon Valley Americans to provide public support for Trump, these same technology leaders are unlikely to give up on Trump and follow Musk.
“Trump is now the Republican beating,” Tate said in an email to Fox News’s digital numbers.
“Elon Musk is better off trying to shape politics from within the Republican Party,” Tate said. “The third-party effort is doomed to fail. Most of President Trump’s supporters see the effort as hostility to Trump and will not support Musk. Meanwhile, all Democratic voters are limited to despising Musk, so they will not support him, either.”

Tate said Trump and Musk should try to fix their relationship because “both brings something important and unique to the Republican Party.
“By leaving Trump and the Republican Party, Musk will chisel a small percentage of Republican voters – that’s not enough to enable his new party to win the election, but could make Democrats a spoiler in an extremely tight election,” Tate said.
Alex Keyssar, a history professor at Harvard Kennedy School of Public Policy, said there may be more third-party candidates who can win state and local elections now with the bipartisan system. But it is unclear whether this translates to a national election, as the administration of the election and the potential for those who appear in court puts additional restrictions on those candidates, he said.
“There are a lot of popular sentiments looking for other things that are stressing for third parties,” Keyssar told Fox News Digital. “In that sense, Elon Musk is doing something.”
Despite this, voters don’t seem interested in third parties with Musk. While 49% of U.S. voters said they would consider joining a third party, 77% said they would not join the ship if Musk created this.
