A police officer died of injuries when responding to a shooting outside the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (near Emory University).
The Atlanta Police Department said the incident occurred Friday and involved a now-dead “single shooter.”

Media reports also indicated that the man’s father called law enforcement on the day of the shooting and believed his son had committed suicide.
Susan Monarez, director of the CDC, said the center was “heartbroken” by the attack.
“A brave local law enforcement officer gave his life, and another was injured after the gunman opened fire on at least four CDC buildings,” she wrote in an article on X.
“Dikalb County Police, CDC Safety and Emory University responded immediately and decisively to help prevent further damage to our employees and communities.”
In a press conference given on Friday, police said they were aware of reports of an active shooter at a “immediate” road intersection in front of the CDC campus at 16:50 local time (21:50 BST).
Police added that officials from multiple agencies responded, including federal and state partners.
Emory University posted on social media at the time: “Active shooters on the Emory Atlanta campus of Emory Point CVS. Run, hide, fight.”
The CDC campus received multiple rounds of gunfire into the building.
Police said they found the shooter “hit by gunfire” on the second floor of the CVS pharmacy at the intersection – but could not specify Friday whether it was from law enforcement agencies or self-imposed.
According to CBS News, a shelter was cancelled about an hour and a half after the shooting.
Since then, the police department has said there is no “continuous threat” to the campus or the surrounding communities.
Media reports said CDC employees were asked to work remotely on Monday.
