President Donald Trump resumed presidential fitness tests in public schools on Thursday.
The assessment was originally measured for the first time in the 1950s in the health and athletic ability of young people, including sit-ups, push-ups, pull-ups, and sit-in tests. It also has a competitive component and won the Presidential Fitness Award for Best Performance.
The test was stopped in 2012 and replaced the fitness program during Barack Obama’s tenure.
Bernd Debusmann of the BBC explores the history of the exam and how Americans think of it.
