At a press conference in the National Capital, Kharge said the Congress’ ‘black paper’ highlights the ‘failures’ of the government on tackling issues like unemployment, price rise, and farmers’ distress.

In a sarcastic jibe at the Congress’ ‘black paper’ against the BJP government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the party’s allegations were like a ‘Kaala Teeka’ (to ward off evil eye) in the midst of all the good work done by his government.

This comes after Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge  on Tuesday released a ‘black paper’ against the Centre, titled ‘10 Saal Anyay Kaal’, which highlighted the ‘failures’ of the government on tackling issues like unemployment, price rise, and farmers’ distress. Accusing the Narendra Modi led BJP government of posing a threat to democracy, Kharge alleged that the Centre had overlooked the unemployment issue and discriminated against non-BJP led states over the last decade.

The Congress’ ‘black paper’ was prompted by the Centre announcing it will table a ‘white paper’ in Parliament on the “mismanagement” of the economy prior to 2014.

“We are raising the main issue of unemployment, which the BJP never talks about…There is discrimination being done with non-BJP states like Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana,” said Kharge.

Accusing the BJP government of “finishing democracy”, Kharge said: “There is a danger to democracy in the country…In last 10 years, 411 MLAs were taken on by the BJP.  They toppled so many Congress governments.”

Attacking PM Modi, Kharge said he talks of Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi when asked about price rise but “they are ruling now and they should answer what they have done”.

Kharge said the Congress ensured India’s independence and in 2024, it will take the country out of the BJP’s “darkness of injustice”.
