Testimony to Congress on Tuesday, a mother shares heartbreaking details of how her son, a U.S. Navy veteran, was shot dead Illegal immigration Under the Obama administration, on property in southern Texas.
Marie Vega, a legal immigrant from Mexico, shared a painful experience of testimony at a Senate Subcommittee hearing on Tuesday.
According to Vega’s testimony, her family enjoys barbecue on their property La Feria, TexasWhen two illegal immigrants “ambushed” them in July 2014 without any warning.
She shared: “When two foreigners who committed crimes decided to ambush us in an attempt to steal two four-wheel drive trucks. The two non-legals jumped out of the stolen vehicle they were driving and without hesitation or warning, they started shooting us.”

Her son and husband tried to rekindle the fire. But in the attack, her son Javier “Harvey” Vega Jr., Former Marine Corps Border Patrol officer was killed. Meanwhile, her husband suffered permanent damage from the incident.
She said that in addition to the death and physical harm suffered by her family, she, the daughter and her young grandson were traumatized.
“There are consequences for opening the border,” Vega said. “And, you can see from my experience that the pain is with us for the rest of our lives because of the crimes committed by illegal persons.”
Vega said she tried to protect her grandson and looked at her son helplessly chest.
Vega asked, “Do you know what it feels like to walk down after seeing your son be shot? Do you know how it feels like to hear gunfire and bullets blow through you? Do you know what it feels like to tell your grandchildren in your chest and your son hiding on the ground when your mind is going to handle everything?
“Do you know how you feel when you hear your son’s last words about his father?’Dad, keep shooting.” Her last words continue shooting,” she asked, “that will never happen. ”

She called the ordeal a “nightmare” and said: “Let my husband and I not get back on fire, the illegal person will kill everyone, there are no witnesses.”
According to Vega’s testimony, the two non-legal persons had previous criminal records, threatened other neighbors in their community and were previously deported. She said she continued to live with the “survivor’s inner gui” and had difficulty falling asleep at night due to trauma.
“There are consequences for opening the border. You can see from my experience that the pain is with us for the rest of our lives because of the crimes committed illegally.”
“11 years is how much I’ve worked hard to survive without children,” she said. “In every moment of waking up, I’m flashing back to 11 years. In 11, we celebrated the boy’s birthday, graduation, wedding, starting a new family, a new career and a great achievement without my children.”
“Illegal foreigners have affected American life in a very negative way,” Vega continued. “They don’t care about human life. As I have witnessed, the illegal people who killed Harvey also shot at my husband, innocent children and women. My grandson and their friends are only eight and 11 years old. Please take a moment and imagine your child or grandson witnessing this horror.”

She concluded that “If our immigration law is enforced, our son is here.”

Speaking to the Senators on the subcommittee, Vega said: “You have sworn to uphold the Constitution and work for our people. This means working with your politicians, and you should work together no matter what aspect of the aisle you are in.
