Attorney General Pam Bondi Jeffrey Epstein caseciting the so-called strong public interest in the infamous sex trafficking investigation.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche filed the motion in a federal court in Manhattan, urging the judge to release the transcript from Epstein’s 2019 grand jury lawsuit and from the lawsuit prosecuting Epstein’s convicted colleagues. Ghislaine Maxwellas part of the new transparency of the new department.
Earlier this month, the Ministry of Justice and The FBI released The memorandum describes a “exhaustive review” of Epstein’s investigation archives. The internal review attempted to determine if there was any evidence that justified the charges for others, but concluded that “no such evidence was found” against any uncharged third party.
Officials say public interest in its conclusions remains high since its release on July 6.

Although the department insists that this is the finding of the memorandum, the document emphasizes that “is crucial to the U.S. public to this administration.” In view of the strong public interest, the Justice Department told the court that it is moving basic grand jury transcripts to clarify its investigation efforts in Epstein’s affairs.
The Justice Department said it will work with prosecutors to edit all victim names and personally identifiable information from the transcript before any release.
The motion guarantees: “Transparency in this process does not assume our legal obligation to protect victims.”
Epstein, 66, was charged with sex trafficking by a New York grand jury on July 2, 2019. The case was dismissed after he committed suicide in a prison cell while awaiting trial.

Epstein’s long-time confidant Ghislaine Maxwell was indicted in 2020 by a grand jury for multiple charges related to trafficking and coercion of minors.
She was convicted in December 2021 and sentenced to 20 years in prison. Maxwell’s conviction was upheld in 2024 and she is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to review her case.
Grand jury lawsuits are often secrets of the law, or as the motion says: “The legal tradition of pre-grand jury lawsuits will usually be secrets.” However, the document states that this tradition is “not absolute.”
Federal courts have recognized “certain ‘special circumstances’” that even with the usual exceptions, it is appropriate to release records of large juries, such as cases with great public or historical importance.

The Justice Department believes that given its unparalleled infamy, Epstein’s case is exactly this special situation.
The bill states: “Public officials, lawmakers, experts and ordinary citizens remain deeply interested in the Epstein issue and are concerned about it.”
The bill notes that a Florida judge ordered the release of some Epstein grand jury records last year after the financier was “the most notorious pedophile in American history” and that the facts in the Epstein case “tell the story of a national shame.”
According to the Department of Justice, the sealed grand jury transcript is a “critical moment in the history of our country” and “[t]It was time for him to let the public guess that what they included should end. ”
The motion stressed that Epstein’s death meant that any privacy interests around him would be “significantly reduced.” Although Maxwell is still fighting her beliefs, prosecutors say the extraordinary public scrutiny around Epstein’s legend is urgently needed to be announced now.
For these reasons, the Justice Department urged the court to conclude that the Epstein and Maxwell cases are eligible for issues of public interest and to approve the grand jury transcript while submitting any protection orders.
