David Gergen worked for four presidents including Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton before becoming an academic and political television expert. He is 83 years old.

“David Gergen is a comprehensive professional and a very kind person. I have the idea to be with my family. He loves politics and he loves serving this country.”
“RIP, Mr. Gergen,” wrote CBS reporter Robert Costa.

During his time in the Nixon administration, Gergen told the Washington Post in 1981: “I’m still young, I’m too naive. It’s put me in a dilemma. It’s an extremely difficult experience in terms of belief in people.”
After leaving office, Gergen served as editor and columnist, as well as the conservative American Enterprise Institute and Harvard Free Kennedy School of Government. He is also a commentator for PBS, CNN and NPR.
