US pilot Ethan Guo was detained for two months after being detained for suspected illegally landing the plane on Chilean territory and has been released from the Chilean air base in Antarctica.
Mr. Guo, 20, was released on Saturday. He was ordered to pay a donation of $30,000 (£22,332) and was banned from entering Chilean territory for three years.
The young pilot and influencer was accused of landing the plane without permission after officials made false flight plans as he was traveling alone to all seven continents to raise funds for cancer research.
His lawyer, Jaime Barrientos Ramírez, told BBC’s U.S. partner CBS News that Mr. Guo’s performance was “very good”.
“Of course, we don’t agree to the legal process open to him, but have been fired,” his lawyer said.
He is expected to donate to childhood cancer research within 30 days. He also has to leave the country as soon as possible.
The BBC has commented with Mr Barrientos Ramírez.
Ethan Guo embarked on a 19-year-old journey to become the youngest person to fly to every continent alone while hoping to raise $1 million (£740,300) for cancer research through St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.
Having visited six continents on seven continents, he flew in June from the Punta Arenas, the southernmost point of Chile, to King George Island on the Atlantic coast on June 182q.
The island is claimed by Chile and named after King George III of England.
Mr. Guo, originally from Tennessee, was detained after landing on the island, home to many international research stations and their staff.
Authorities said he proposed a plan to cross the Punta Arenas, but according to BBC News, it was the plan of the BBC’s U.S. partner.
On June 29, he was charged with allegedly handing over false information to ground control and logging in unauthorized, but the judge deleted the information last month.
He had previously said he wanted to continue his original mission and was able to leave the military base.
