ReutersAn 82-year-old woman, one of 12 victims who attacked to support Israel’s hostages, died from injuries in Colorado, officials said.
Karen Diamond was seriously injured after the suspect Mohamed Sabry Soliman shouted “Free Palestine” among the suspects.
According to court documents, the suspect told police after being arrested that he wanted to “kill all Zionists.”
Prosecutors have now added a new first-degree murder charge due to the death of one of the victims, who remains in jail in addition to multiple other murders faced by the suspect.
Diamond was one of 20 people around June 1 to participate in a life gathered at the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder, Colorado to raise awareness about the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza.
The District Attorney’s Office said she died from “severe injuries suffered in the attack.”
“This terrible attack has now taken the life of an innocent person who is loved by her family and friends,” said District Attorney Michael Dougherty. “Our hearts are with the Diamond Family during this incredibly difficult time.”
Officials said the suspect planned a year-long attack, watching videos of how to make a Molotov cocktail before driving from his home in Colorado Springs to Boulder for the attack.
The suspect allegedly approached the group before the attack by pretending to be a gardener, prosecutors said.
Near the crime scene, officials said they found 16 plastic containers within reach of their arms, and a herbicide filled with gasoline.
Last week, Mr Soriman was charged with a count of 12 federal hate crimes. He also faces at least 100 state criminal charges, including attempted murder.
Mr Soliman’s attorney David Kraut signed a plea of innocence on behalf of him last week on behalf of his hate crime charges.
Federal authorities say Egyptian national Mr. Soliman has been living illegally in the United States with his family.
His wife and five children were detained by immigration and customs law enforcement (ICE) officials in the days following the attack.
