The U.S. men’s national team’s experiment summer stretches to autumn leaves and fights on Saturday night South Koreaand the disappointing results are also the case. On a steaming and wet night at Sports Illustrated Stadium, a 2-0 loss against the Tyguk Warriors could provide U.S. head coach Mauricio Pochettino with valuable new insights into his addition to the pool of American players, as he says it’s his goal for this international window. It may have confirmed a pre-conceived theory about which players in the MLS heavy roster can advance international standards. It may not do these things. Either way, it certainly is a continuation of discomfort, which could have been transformative for a team that desperately needs to get out of the downturn in hosting the first game of the Home Run World Cup.
South Korea also has no such discomfort, even head coach Hong Myung-Bo has been severely criticized for his recent outdated performance. The capacity crowd in Harrison, NJ is certainly associated with a clear revival, with overwhelmingly cheering visitors – a fact that might be surprising until you think the town has walked home from Fort Lee to the growing Korean diaspora. The traditional American “Daehan Minguk” shout erupted 20 minutes before the kickoff, and with Hong’s cheers accompanied each thrust on the counter-attack side.
The United States can reasonably expect more people at home World Cupbut they hope to leave Saturday’s form that was far behind. Pochettino’s team started out well and he played better for most of the opening game. But, as in a similar experimental game against Turkey earlier this year, the initial flash didn’t fit in anything positive in 90 minutes.
The key to one side’s failure is the lack of defensive communication. Tristan Blackmon, a 29-year-old debutant, was one of the couple’s surprises in Pochettino’s roster, the center of some of them, but no American players are immune. Experienced players like Tyler Adams, Tim Ream and Sergiño Dest are all competing for a Korean team, which seems to have made progress throughout the process.
It is suspected that son Heung Min has started a relatively new role as the starting striker of Taeguk Warriors. The newly signed LAFC man made it clear that he could be a different maker in this position—in the 18th minute, the opening goal of the game was a clear example of the US disconnect and South Korea’s verve. With the US flat feet, there is a huge gap between the midfield and the defensive line and between the midfield and the defensive line, the son read this and parked himself between Rem and Blackmon, got the ball, turned around, and made no mistakes.
In the second goal, the son made a simple effort and kick on the top of the box, then slid over Rem and Blackmon to poke the ball out of the pop-up goalkeeper Matt Freese. Lee Dong-gyeong’s flickering effect is far from simple and well executed, but makes it difficult to understand this from a team that wants to make noise on the world stage.

South Korea has created more opportunities and almost missteps in our backs. Just six minutes after the admission, Christian Pulisic and Adams left a big gap in the shape of the American by sprinting to the same spot, where South Korea cuts the two with good coordinated high pressure, eventually forcing Freese to fall into one of several close passes that night.
South Korea did make its own mistakes, but the United States has repeatedly failed to take advantage of them. In the 27th minute, playing from behind, a sloppy giveaway puts the combination of Diego Luna, Josh Sargent, Pulisic and Tim Weah just right. They couldn’t find a decent goal window and Weah’s efforts were saved.
Pochettino chose to be secondary in the 61st minute, bringing Alex Freeman, Chris Richards’ Weah, Forarin Balogun’s Sargent and Cristian Roldan for Adams. As these introductions evolved, the formation changed, from defenders to back, five, Freeman and Max Arfsten advanced forward on either touch line.
The United States does not usually play five games often, and throughout his tenure as manager, most of Pochettino hasn’t. In this case, while it is hard to say the new arrangement or the United States is increasingly desperate to thank this improvement, there are indeed some chances to score.
It reached several chances of breaking through a few inches away. In one, one scene falls on Richards, who looks like he is a central defender as the ball kicks off the thigh and goes into goalkeeper Joe Howo’s arm of gratitude. In the other, Joe is another hero, saving Barrogon’s two pointed efforts before the striker’s third cherry bite, which made his final effort give up the crossbar. Balogun was scored again at the dying moment of the game and Joe saved again.
Missed opportunities, size, continue to follow this team as their moments in the spotlight get more ominous.
