Donald Trump announced that he would end trade talks with Canada, one of Canada’s largest trading partners, accusing it of imposing unfair taxes on U.S. technology companies in a “direct and blatant attack on our country.”

The United States has been negotiating with Canadafor months, it has been one of its two largest trading partners in the world. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney met with Trump earlier this month at the G7 summit of world leaders in Alberta.

Trump wrote Truth Social: “We just learned that Canada has a hard time trading with countries, including them charging up to 400% tariffs on our farmers, and over the years, the tariffs on dairy products have just been announced that they are issuing digital service taxes on our U.S. technology companies, a direct and blatant attack on our country.
“Obviously, they are copying the EU, which has done the same thing and is currently discussing with us. Under this huge tax, we are here to terminate all discussions with Canada, effective immediately. We will let them know for the next seven days that they will pay, they will pay, they will pay, they will pay, and they will pay, and do business with the United States and the United States for the next seven days.
