TexasGovernor Greg Abbott has signed a new redivision bill that will remake the state’s congressional map to greatly support Republicans.
Abbott signed a highly controversial bill Friday that prompted states Democrats A week of strike took place earlier this month.
In the video about X, Abbott can be seen signing the bill and says “creating a big and beautiful map that ensures that the U.S. represents more equitably for the Texas Convention.”
Abbott’s signing comes after the Texas House approved a new map (a new map of up to five Republican congressional districts will be created in a partisan vote of 88-52). The state Senate then approved the bill earlier Saturday.

New regional plans will remove democratic majority areas in several major cities including Houston, Austin and Dallas-Worthworth Metropolis.

exist reply To pass the map, Demetria McCain, director of policy at the Legal Defense Fund, issued the following statement: “Black voters are not tools for lawmakers to use maps when they see fit. This re-division process in Texas is a shameful power at the expense of black voices.”

Meanwhile, Oni Blair, executive director of the Texas chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, explain: “Before any disaster relief was passed, Governor Abbott and his legislative allies re-launched the voting map behind closed doors to further deprive black, Brown and Asian American voters of suffrage.
“It is shameful when Texas lawmakers choose to advance President Trump’s extreme agenda while betraying the support of thousands of families who are still in one of the deadliest floods in state history. Every Texan deserves fair representation because in a democracy, voters no longer choose their leaders, not the other way around,” Blair added.
