Lies murder David Ross.

Five hundred policemen packed one Atlanta The metropolitan church met in person Friday to honor the murdered DeKalb County police officers, which cannot be demeaned by lying or silence.

Slowly, the honorary guard of the policeman in formal uniform raised the white hand in a salute, Jason Sawyer handed the folded American flag to Rose’s little child, sitting next to her grandmother, wearing a shirt with “My dad is a hero.” Her mother is not there – can’t be there: She is pregnant with Rose’s third child.

Until this moment, the stone walls of police, health workers and politicians finally wept.

Two weeks ago, a person who was reportedly deceived by false information against the vaccine opened fire with a rifle at the Centers for Disease Control near Emory University’s campus. Ross immediately responded to the shooting. The gunman shot and killed himself.

Then the country continues to move forward. OK, most of it.

Memorial One half of the crowds of First Baptist Church came from the fallen fraternity, traveling from far away to New York City and Aurora, Colorado to support Rose’s family. Most of the rest worked for the CDC or did it before being fired by Trump.

Politicians fill a part – Gov. Brian Kemp participates in the legislature and city council members around the Atlanta Metropolitan.

Moral anger went from the lips of every conservative politician in the state to the stage of Trump rally to the Georgia City Council meeting when an undocumented immigrant was murdered in 2024 when Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student, was murdered at the University of Georgia, and an undocumented immigrant in 2024. Her murder became a catalyst for legislation targeting illegal immigration at the state and federal levels.

The murder of a policeman and veteran while defending federal employees did not arouse the same anger.

Donald Trump has no public comments about the murder that CDC staff can point to. His grandmother said he said nothing to Rose’s family.

The CDC’s internal communications about the shooting did not mention the gunmen’s anti-vaccination motivation. Minister of Health and Human Services Robert F Kennedy Jr – One of the most famous suppliers of vaccine conspiracy theory – visited the CDC office after the shooting, and he did not meet with linemen.

A woman working in a church coffee shop whispered JD Vance might attend. or Melania Trump. None of them appeared.

Multiple CDC employees mentioned comments from Russell Vought, Director of the Office of Management and Budget, Captured Last year by ProPublica. “We want bureaucrats to be affected by trauma,” Vought said. “When they wake up in the morning, we hope they don’t want to go to work because they are increasingly seen as villains. We want their funds to be shut down … we want them to be traumatized.”

A health researcher said, OK, we are now traumatized.

“I thought it was a bullet, but I didn’t realize they were shooting us,” said a young woman employee who attended the memorial service, hoping not to know she was worried about her revenge. “It’s terrible and stupid, but I walked to the window. When I stood next to the window, suddenly another round started. A full round.”

The gunman fired more than 500 bullets into the building. CDC employees found themselves stomping on broken glass for a few days.

“My colleague said ‘Duck!’, I ducked and I literally climbed down,” she said. “We kind of ran to the indoor office and we stayed there. We thought there were a lot of shooters. We didn’t know what was going on.”

No one is affiliated with the CDC and can identify themselves when talking to the media. They say they are afraid of unemployment. But some say the government’s response cuts off their ultimate loyalty to the organization. They are now loyal to their colleagues. But not the government agencies that hire them. They are haunted and betrayed by silence.

The politicians who participated in the service were equally quiet. Two months ago, a man authorized by far-right fears murdered a state representative in Minnesota and shot a state senator and killed a week-long news cycle with their spouse, a city councillor said. But Edward’s “Big Ball” Coral Island was hit by teenage hooligans on the corner of DC, and Trump sent the National Guard.

Like the CDC staff, elected officials are reluctant to speak in records, fearing to be targeted in all senses.

There are rote rituals for police funerals and grief programs. Some of them are clichés and formulaic, and their emotional value is gradually fading away due to their expectations. The blessing of prayer seems to feel like the end of the emotion of “thoughts and prayers.” The use of the term “final sacrifice” is not enough to convey the moral frustration of lies to murder a good person.

“David Rose is a person’s life, and his life is defined by services,” said interim police chief David Padrick, who noted that he served in the Marine Corps before joining the county police force. “David is more than just a colleague. He is a family.”

DeKalb Police Rev. Gregory Webb said some people at the CDC also feel guilty about survivors.

“Thinking of this six months of training, facing people who are in danger, facing adversity, facing violent suspects, beating all these rounds, he encountered a fire,” Webber said. “There was someone sitting next to him in the phone room next to him for the last time… the recovery process will take a while. I don’t care who you are, we will all be sad.”

Ross received a tribute from 21 shots. In the stillness after Fusillade, mourners solemnly fill the rose’s life-size cut and spread flowers with signatures and flowers beneath their feet, Rose’s cousin quietly wonders when someone would ask a man, when someone would ask how easily a man with simple mental health questions and increasingly exciting things to carry a spear.

Silence is her answer.
