Trump accused of “Together is” mortgage fraud accusation of fired Lisa Cook
Hello, welcome to the American Political Scene Blog. I’m Tom Ambrose and over the next few hours I’ll bring you all the latest news lines.
Let’s start with the news Donald Trump accused of “patch together” allegations of fire Fed Governor Lisa Cook.
The president says she will lose her job She committed accusation of mortgage fraud – A remarkable move marks the latest escalation in Trump’s attack on central bank independence.
Trump wrote to Cook on Monday, telling her he evacuated her from her post “effective immediately” based on allegations from one of his ally, who said she received a mortgage on the second home, which she mistakenly described as a primary residence.
Maxine Waters, the top Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee, said Trump’s attack on Cook was clearly a sign of his ongoing effort to “undermine the Fed’s independence” and shifted his attention to signs of economic challenges posed by his policies. Waters said:
Their latest goal is Dr. Lisa Cook, a highly qualified, pioneering economist and the first black woman to serve on the Fed Council committee since the founding of Congress in 1913.
It makes it very clear to me that the allegations against Dr. Cook have been pieced together to try to replace the person she replaced with someone who is first loyal to Trump rather than the U.S. Constitution or U.S. law.
Hours later, Cook responded in a statement emailed to reporters through a law firm of attorney Abbe Lowell, who said: “By the law, there is no reason, he has no power” to remove her from the job appointed by Joe Biden in 2022.
She said:
I will continue to perform my duties to help the U.S. economy.
Lowell said Trump’s request “lacks any proper procedure, basis or legal authority”, adding:
We will take any action to prevent his illegal action.
Trump posted The full text of the letter Monday night on social media. In it, he said he found “enough reasons” in the allegations against her to evacuate her from her position.
Meanwhile, the top Democratic legislator angrily condemned Trump’s attempt to fire the chef. Massachusetts Senator and ranking member of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, Elizabeth Warren called it “a desperate president seeking scapegoat to cover up his failure to lower the costs of Americans.”
“This is a dictatorial power, blatant violation of it Fed Action must be overturned in court. “Warren said.
