Jack Draper believes he won’t be hampered by physical pain as he faces the challenge of finding his form at the U.S. Open after a seven-week break.

The fifth seed of New York Draper has not competed in singles since a difficult time Loss Marin Cilic Wimbledon was in the second round after learning of a bruise in his left arm bone.

“It’s a game I’ve been through for a while,” Draper said. “I first started to feel the middle of the clay season. When I hit the forehand and sent the serve, my arms closed a little. Gradually getting worse. Then, on the grass, it got really painful. So I don’t know what I’m dealing with.

“After the grass was over, I got the check. I had bone pressure on the humerus on the left side, my bone bruises. It was one of them and if you keep playing with it it could get very, very, very serious. So I had to take some time. Say, it’s not that bad because obviously I can do a lot of other things. I’ve stopped completely.

Although Draper is sometimes painful, Draper doesn’t think the injury plays any role in his Wimbledon loss, which he says is purely his efforts to adapt to the ground.

“It’s a kind of hurt that takes time to heal,” Draper said. “Bones can heal, but it can cause me some discomfort. That’s for sure. It’s not something I’m going out on Monday and feels it’s just getting me back. But, at the same time, I’ve been taking care of the last month or so, so I’m looking forward to the competition and I want to go back to a lot of things.”
