Explosion and fire broke out at Southeast Auto Supply Company on Friday Louisiana The flames were sent into the air, and a thick black smoke rolled over the rural community, forcing nearby residents and an elementary school to evacuate.
Officials said there were no reports of any injuries in the supply fire at Smitty’s north of Rosland town, but everyone living within a mile (1.6 km) radius had to evacuate. Roseland has a location of about 1,100 people, and is about 50 miles (80 kilometers) of Baton Rouge.
President of the Parish of Tangipahoa, LouisianaRobby Miller said it was a “god gift” that no one was hurt.
“We are trying to protect people, structure and environment,” Miller told reporters at a press conference Friday afternoon, when staff arrived for the third hour of trying to extinguish hell.
There is little information about fires. Miller said officials are not sure what caused it, whether there are obvious chemical risks, or how long it may take for firefighters to control the situation.
“We are closely monitoring this. Follow the guidance of your local officials,” Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry Posted On X. “We are praying for everyone’s safety.”
Video by Louisiana news outlet WBRZ shows vibrant orange flames rising under smoke clouds and engulfing Smitty’s supply portion in Arcola, a small, non-incorporated community. Firefighters can be seen spraying water arcs into the fire.
According to the company’s website, Smitty’s supply provides “high performance lubricants and auto parts” including oil, brake fluid, power steering fluid and antifreeze. Miller said about 400 people were employed on the property.
The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In addition to firefighters and law enforcement, the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are also on site. Miller said federal agencies are monitoring “determine and guide what we do.”
The Tangipahoa parish school system posted on its Facebook page, saying the Department of Homeland Security recommends evacuation of nearby primary schools. The bus was taken to the shuttle student to the school board office in a nearby town.
