Police said a man who allegedly threatened a U.S. Congressman’s vehicle in Ohio had turned himself to authorities.
The driver was identified by the Rocky River Police Department as 36-year-old Feras Hamdan on Friday. He pleaded not guilty to the charges of the incident.
In a video shared on social media, Republican House Representative Max Miller said a man honked his horn and forced him to “get his way” in an attempt to get his attention.
He claimed the man tried to show him a Palestinian flag saying “to Israel’s death” and that “he wanted to kill me and my family.”
Police said they issued a warrant for Mr Hamdan’s arrest after MPs filed a criminal lawsuit. They said Hamdan turned around soon after.
The incident occurred in the Rocky River, Ohio, suburb of Cleveland, and has been investigated by state and federal authorities, including U.S. Capitol Police.
Mr. Hamdan, a Ohio doctor, reportedly faces allegations of serious threats and racial intimidation.
He appeared in court on Friday, with his bonds set for Rocky River City Court Judge Joseph Burke at $500,000 (£371,500). He was ordered to surrender to his passport and returned to court on July 8.
On Thursday afternoon, Miller posted a video on X describing the so-called incident, calling the driver “unhidden”.
“Hate in this country has become out of control,” he wrote in his post.
Miller added: “As a Marine, a proud Jewish American and a staunch defender of Israel, I will not face this blatant anti-Semitic violence.”
The incident sparked an alarm about political violence in the United States after a fatal attack on two democracies in Minnesota and their spouses.
State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark were shot dead at their home on Saturday, described as “a politically motivated assassination.” Another MP, John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were also shot but survived.
Police have arrested Vance Luther Boelter in connection with the Minnesota attack, which investigators say has a list of 70 “targets” including the names of other Democratic politicians.
President Donald Trump is also a target of political violence, with two assassinations attempted to kill him in 2024.
