Zelenskyy arrives in Washington to meet with Russia for an enduring peace

Ukraine President Zelenskyy He met with President Donald Trump on Sunday to discuss the end of the war with Russia, confirming his arrival in Washington, D.C.

“I have arrived in Washington, and tomorrow I’m going to meet President Trump. Tomorrow we’re also talking to European leaders. I’m thankful for @potus’ invitation. We all strongly hope to end this war quickly and reliably. Peace must last.”

Zelenskyy will bring a group of European leaders to a meeting on Monday, and Trump said in The Truth Society that it was “an honor to receive everyone.”

Zelenskyy said the meeting must be different from past discussions on how to achieve peace with Russia, which led Moscow to take over part of Crimea and Donbas in 2014.

He also pointed out that in 1994, the so-called “safety assurance” was invalid.

The Ukrainian president said his country would not tolerate another temporary truce and insisted that only enforceable assurances could prevent Moscow from launching future attacks.

Zelenskyy highlights some recent “success” in his post on X Ukrainian troopsstressing his assurance that Kiev can and will continue to defend its territory with Western support.

“The Ukrainians are fighting for their land. Now our soldiers have succeeded in the Donetsk and Sumi region. I am confident that we will defend Ukraine, effectively keeping security, and our people will always thank President Trump, everyone in the United States, every partner and allies, and for their support and helplessness,” he maintained.

Although Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to Trump, the United States and European allies supported this support, he also hoped that “common strength” would prompt Russia to end the war that began more than three years ago.

“Russia has to end this war, and that itself begins. I hope that our shared strength with our friends in the United States and Europe will force Russia to have a real peace. Thank you!.”
