The District of Columbia Attorney General sued the Trump administration on Friday for federal takeover of the Washington, D.C. Police Force and the deployment of the National Guard into the city, deemed the effort “illegal” and surpassed Trump’s authority as commander-in-chief.
District Attorney General Brian Schwalb filed Friday’s lawsuit notes the government’s actions under Section 740 of the Domestic Rule Act[do] The usurpation of the powers of the region over its government is not authorized. ”
“This narrow regulation allows the president and his Deleger to require the mayor to provide the “service” of the MPD, and that’s all. None of the instructions in the Bundy order falls under the authoritative guidelines of the limited grant,” he said in a federal court application.
Schwab also argued that the new order of Attorney General Pam Bondi seeks to break the law by Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith and asked the court to overturn the order.
