Texas Democrats plan to return home as Republicans prepare for new rezoning meetings

Many actions are expected between Republicans and Democrats in the battle of the re-divided congressional re-divided state before next year’s midterm elections.

In Texas, the state Senate passed a new congressional map, but Democratic lawmakers in the House fled the state, preventing the House from reaching the quorum. This effectively blocked any votes in the chamber to approve the driving force for the re-division of the Republican Party.

Both houses of the state legislature plan to meet at 10 a.m. CT and both are expected to adjourn the current special session.

Abbott will then immediately begin another special session.

“The second agenda will have the exact same agenda and potentially add projects that are crucial to Texans,” Abbott said earlier this week. “The abandoned Democrats who flee the country and abandon voters will not have a probation.”

Additionally, the three-term Conservative governor swore: “I will continue to call the special session after the special session until we get the first agenda for Texas.”

The Republican push in Texas at Trump’s urging is part of a broader effort by the Republican Party across the country to maintain control of the rooms by razor thin house majority in mid-2026, when the parties in power traditionally faced political headwinds and failed seats.

Trump and his political team aimed to prevent what happened during his first term in the White House, when Democrats rushed to mid-2018 to seize a majority in the House. But while Republicans do not face constitutional restrictions on the current Congressional map in Texas, Newsom’s path In California It’s much more complicated.

Schwarzenegger’s new role: Re-dividing drives against Newsom

The governor will hold a special election this year to get voter approval to eliminate the constitutional amendment that constitutes the non-partisan redivision committee. Holding a referendum will require a two-thirds majority vote for the Democratic-led California Legislature.

Democratic leaders are confident that they will push votes for constitutional amendments and newly proposed Congressional maps through the legislature.

One of the most obvious members is former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, the last Republican governor to California dominated by Democrats.

Currently, Democrats control 43 of the state’s 52 home seats. In Texas, Republicans control 25 of the state’s 38 congressional districts.
