Startup confusion of artificial intelligence (AI) has led to a $34.5 billion (£25.6 billion) acquisition by Google’s Chrome browser.
In a letter to Sundar Pichai, owner of Google owner Alphabet, Pllexity said that moving Chrome to an independent carrier dedicated to user security will benefit the public.
Google’s dominance of search engines and online advertising markets is under scrutiny, with technology giants facing years-long antitrust cases by the U.S. Attorney General.
The BBC has contacted Google for comment. The company has not announced any plans to sell Chrome, the world’s most popular web browser with an estimated 3 billion users.
A ruling is expected to be issued this month, which could cause Google to be ordered to break down its search business.
The company said it would appeal such a ruling, saying the idea of taking off Chrome was an “unprecedented proposal” that would harm consumers and safety.
The Confused app is one of the emerging players in the Generate AI competition, as well as well as famous platforms such as Openai’s Chatgpt and Google’s Gemini.
Last month, Confused launched an AI-powered browser called Comet.
A BBC spokesman told the BBC that the bidding marked a “important commitment to open networks, user choice and continuity for all those who choose Chrome”.
As part of the proposed acquisition, Pllexity said it will continue to use Google as the default search engine in Chrome, although users can adjust their settings.
The company said it will also maintain and support Chromium, a widely used open source platform that supports Chrome and other browsers, including Microsoft Edge and Opera.
Confused to answer questions about how to fund a proposed transaction. In July, it was estimated to be worth $18 billion.
The company made headlines earlier this year after willing to buy the U.S. version of Tiktok, which faces a deadline in September that will be sold by Chinese owners or banned in the U.S.
Confusion reportedly attracted interest from technology giants such as Apple and Facebook owner Meta.
