Two-hour horror in New York skyscrapers

For hundreds of employees at 345 Park Avenue, an iconic 44-story skyscraper in downtown Manhattan, a community full of large corporate offices — suddenly became like everyone else on Monday night.

As commuters come home in the hot July, workers on the Park Street tower run for their lives, meeting rooms with tables, and send snatched goodbye messages to loved ones.

“I texted my parents, ‘I love them’,” Jessica Chen, who works on the second floor, told the American media. “Nothing can describe this feeling.”

Ms. Chen and others in the skyscraper were inspired by the unexpected sound of gunfire from the hall.

The gunfire will kill four people, including New York police officers, as well as others on the hall and 33rd floor. A person is still in critical condition in the hospital.

In a moment of chaos, around EST 18:30 (BST 23:30), a 27-year-old man drove into one of Manhattan’s busiest areas and completed an off-road car through Colorado, Nebraska and Iowa.

Shane Tamura in Las Vegas double-marked his black BMW on the Park Strip – only blocks from tourist destinations Rockefeller Center and St. Patrick’s Cathedral, officials said.

He wore a jacket, button-up shirt and sunglasses, swung an attacking rifle with his right arm and was determined to be the skyscraper, and knew that the National Football League (NFL) was based at its headquarters.

But he would never go to that office.

Instead, when he reached the gates of 345 Park, which stretched the entire New York City neighborhood, he began to “squirt” the hall with gunfire.

At first, Tamura walked past a garrison officer. But then he turned to the right, saw him and shot, killing 36-year-old New York police officer Didal Islam, who left behind two children and a pregnant wife.

“After entering the building, he was killed by the entrance to the right,” Adams said.

Authorities said Tamura wasted very little time before firing at another woman, covering behind the pillars, crossing the hall and continuing to shoot. Wesley Lepatner, who works upstairs in the financial company Blackstone, was killed.

“Our prayers are with her husband, children and family,” the company said.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell wrote to staff that an NFL employee was “seriously injured” in the attack. His father-in-law, Robert Hunter, told the New York Daily News that Craig Clementi, who works for the Treasury Department, was returning home when he was shot. He is now recovering from the surgery.

As gunfire continues, another security guard attempts to activate the alarm system to disable the elevator, potentially stopping more massacres.

But defender Aland Etienne was “assassinated” while covering behind the counter, Adams said.

Afterwards, the gunman heads to the elevator. Police said a woman showed up while he was waiting for the elevator and was somehow allowed to remain unscathed.

But the elevator he boarded would not take him where he wanted.

He went to the wrong elevator bank instead of reaching the NFL office, but at the 33rd floor office of the real estate company that owns the building Rudin Management.

As the chaos unfolds in the hall, the building’s staff emailed a crazy message to a shooter downstairs.

Ms Chen told ABC News that she was watching a speech on the second floor of the skyscraper with about 150 people when they heard the first photo.

“Some people went out at the back door and walked up the street,” she said. “Others, including me, we met the conference room.”

Photos circulating on social media seem to show Blackstone employees stacking sofas, desks and other furniture in front of panicked doors.

According to ESPN, those in the NFL office received news from the league warning them of gunfire. Tell them to switch their phones to mute and hide until law enforcement arrives, and they are waiting for a shooter who will never achieve it to their goal.

In the square outside the tower on Park Street, law enforcement flooded the scene.

Nekeisha Lewis can hear the sound of rapid gunfire from inside the skyscraper while sitting nearby with his friends. She told NBC News that she could see the Gunner through the glass.

Ms. Lewis said that before she knew it, someone ran towards them “very hard” from the building and began crying for help saying he was shot.

“I can’t believe it because he’s running very well. He has an outlet wound that looks like…the back.”

She joined the others to cover behind the wall. As they waited, dozens of workers gradually ran from the building, holding their hands above their heads as they evacuated.

Meanwhile, Tamura roams the 33rd floor inside, shooting the tour “while traveling”. He shot and killed his last victim.

Then, he walked down the corridor and shot in the chest.

Tamura used an AR-15 style rifle assembled by the lower receiver (or gun frame) he bought for him.

On teams in both states, investigators are still working to track Mr. Tamura’s trip from Las Vegas to New York City.

A casual three-page note was found on his body.

The Gunner wrote that he suffered from CTE, a brain disease that was caused by head injuries, such as pain in military combat, and was exposed to sports like American football.

Mayor Adams said Tamura played football as a teenager – although not professional, “it seems to be blamed on the NFL.”

“Study my brain. Sorry,” the notes said.
