Arch Manning pointed his finger at himself as his coach criticized expectations outside as Texas ranked 1, losing 14-7 to the season at Ohio State on Saturday.

Manning, the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning and grandson of Archie Manning, completed 170 yards for 170 yards on 30 passes, and made a touchdown and an interception.

“It wasn’t good enough in the end,” Manning said of his performance. “Obviously, you don’t want to start 0-1 from this season, they’re a great team, but I think we beat ourselves a lot, and that’s starting with me. I have to win better. I think I beat myself today.”

Manning was shaky from the start, with only 26 yards in the half. He was stuffed with Goalline trying to score in the third quarter.

“We have to have that,” Manning said. “And I have to make more push because it’s a big swing in the game.”

Overall, Manning is the debut of a full-time starter for the Longhorns, but doesn’t want to talk about the injured receiver or the over-turned-out turnovers in the offensive line at Texas in 2024 College Football Playoffs.

As Manning said, he hoped he could look back at his worst performance of the season, so he was able to look back on Saturday’s defeat, with head coach Steve Sarkisian quickly reminding Manning that Texas shouldn’t have too many stocks in Chapter 1, as Longhorns expects to be a memorable season.

“For the Arch, expectation is out of control outside,” he said. “But what I want to say is let’s finish the book before we judge it. It’s a chapter and we have a long season to play.”
