The two countries then carried out rocket fires over the next few days, and over the weekend, the United States launched its own air strikes on three major nuclear facilities in Iran.
Iran’s response was to shoot rockets at a US Air Force Base in Qatar on Monday, but it was not without prior notice from us and Katari officials. No injuries were suffered in this attack.
“President Trump’s influence helps to reach a swift deal, which many believe is impossible. President Trump has also taken bold and decisive actions to stop Iran’s nuclear ambitions and ensure that the world’s largest sponsor of terrorist states still cannot obtain nuclear weapons,” Carter wrote in the letter.
Trump’s leadership in the crisis, he said, “reflects the ideals that the Nobel Peace Prize is trying to recognize: the pursuit of peace, prevent war and the development of international harmony. Such breakthroughs require courage and clarity in a region that plagues historical hostility and political turmoil.”
