Kiara Advani and Sidharth Malhotra celebrate their first wedding anniversary today. Here’s looking at how the couple handled their relationship in the public eye with grace.
Actors Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani’s relationship was always speculated about but the duo kept a studied silence till they decided to drop the ‘marriage bomb’ on their fans. While it’s been a year now since the two did their “permanent booking”, both of them dated each other for a couple of years before tying the knot in a dreamy Jaisalmer wedding.
Sidharth and Kiara are said to have fallen in love on the sets of their film Shershaah, in which he played the role of Kargil hero Captain Vikram Batra and she was his love interest Dimple. Besides their pictures from the same holiday destinations and their occasional appearances together, one of the major hints that the audience got was with the promotional reels of their film Shershaah, where their chemistry did the maximum talking.
Even after their wedding, Kiara and Sidharth sparingly talk about each other.
Earlier, in an interview with Femina, Kiara explained that it is their mutual decision to not let their personal lives overpower their hard work as actors.
“Before we were married, it was an issue because we wanted to protect our relationship. Later, it became about protecting their identity as actors. We are both self-made actors and have earned our spaces in the industry on our own. It’s something that we’ve put so much hard work into that we would not want it to be taken away by having the focus shift to our personal lives,” Kiara said.
The fact that both of them come from similar schools of thought, also helps them to be so united in their approach of handling their relationship. Both the actors come from non-filmy family backgrounds. While Sidharth is from New Delhi, Kiara is from Mumbai and both of them had admitted how their focus is their families.
During his appearance at Koffee With Karan 8, Sidharth said, “Both of us have that upbringing. Even though she grew up in Mumbai, she is very disconnected. She is not so skewed by whatever is happening in the industry or behind the camera, I like that. I find that very refreshing. She could be in any profession… She handles her stardom in a way, possibly in a similar way that I like it. Even today, we like spending time together and meeting families. I never had a family in Bombay, but now I do thanks to her.”
The couple finally announced their marriage with a beautiful picture and caption, “Ab humari permanent booking hogayi hai. We seek your blessings and love on our journey ahead.”
The actor-couple is well aware of the interest people have in their relationship. Therefore, when they got married, they released one video from their special day for their fans. That has been the only sneak peek into their wedding festivities so far.
Talking to Femina, Kiara revealed the reason behind putting that video for the public. “It was a beautiful union, and, of course, we wanted to share it with everybody. We are public figures, and a certain inquisitiveness comes with it – which is fine. It’s even sweet. But it cannot take away from our work. We are actors first and that’s what we want to be known for,” she said.
Time and again, the two of them also post pictures with each other on festivals and special occasions. It is safe to say that the two of them have balanced their status as celebrities and their love for acting in a one of the most healthy and graceful manner.
