Authorities say at least 11 people were injured in a stabbing injury at a Walmart supermarket in Michigan.
Authorities confirmed that the incident occurred after the incident in Travers City, and a suspect was detained.
A nearby hospital said it was treating 11 victims. “So, our emergency room is currently experiencing an experience with a patient than usual,” Mumson Medical Center said on social media, with local media reporting that the three were undergoing surgery.
Video posted online shows Walmart’s parking lot showing multiple police and ambulances.
The Greater Travers County Sheriff’s Office confirmed it is investigating “a number of stabbings at Walmart in Travers City.”
Sheriff Michael Shea told reporters that the suspect was a Michigan resident who used a “folding knife weapon.” He added that the incident appeared to be “random behavior”.
Federal personnel are responding to any necessary support to local authorities, said Dan Bongino, deputy director of the FBI.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said she “stays in touch with law enforcement to learn about this horrible news.”
“Our ideas are stuck with victims and the community about this cruel violence,” she added.
Traverse City is located approximately 255 miles (410 kilometers) northwest of Detroit.
