Scottie Scheffler insists that despite winning his fourth major in three years after Prothush’s dominant open victory, he doesn’t think he’s special.

“I’m so grateful for this? Do I like it? Oh my god, it’s a cool feeling. I can’t wait to go home and celebrate this championship with the people who helped me along the way. But, at the end of the day, it didn’t reach the deepest desire inside me. I don’t know why I could achieve my dream, but I’m lucky, but I’m very good at achieving my dreams.

“If anyone is going to listen to my comments this week, I encourage them to listen to everything, I hope I can do a great job of conveying the amazing thing about winning the open championship. But, ultimately, at the end of the day, whether it’s on golf, whatever it is, it’s not about satisfying the deepest desires of your heart.”

Under pressure from reporters, Schevler said: “Just because you won a golf tournament or accomplish something, it won’t make you happy. It’s not – maybe a moment, maybe a few days, but at the end of the day there’s more life in life than playing golf. I’m excited to go home and celebrate this.”

Scheffler also compared with Tiger Woods. “I still think they’re a little stupid. Tigers won, what is 15 professional? It’s my fourth place. I just made up a quarter there. I think Tigers were alone in golf. He was inspiring for my growth. He was a very, very talented person and he was a special person like him, just as good as he was in golf.”

Scheffler lifted the purple-red jug with one arm while holding his 14-month-old son Bennett, who also revealed that his love for golf had been passed on to his offspring. “It’s cool to bring him here,” Schevler said. “He obviously has no idea what’s going on.

“Bennett started swinging a club back and forth. I put a golf ball down and he hit it. Being able to occupy a year old, for them, being able to focus on them might be a good thing.

“It’s special to be able to celebrate with my family. I hope Bennett will be able to get into golf one day. The golf game has taught me a lot. I feel like every day you go out and play golf, you play golf in the mirror, I’ve met some of my best friends in the mirror.

“It’s a very special game. You impose punishment on yourself, it’s just- you learn a lot of wonderful life lessons by playing golf. I wish he could play for a day, and I wish he loved it as much as I do.”
