USA Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said Friday it plans to reduce its workforce by 23% and close its R&D office.
Amid the widespread efforts of the Trump administration to streamline the federal government, layoffs and incentives layoffs and incentives were the loss of more than 3,000 employees after layoffs and incentives.
“Under President Trump’s leadership, the EPA has carefully looked at our actions to ensure that the agency is more capable than ever to achieve our core mission of protecting human health and the environment while also powering the great American comeback,” EPA administrator Lee Zeldin said in a statement.
“This effective reduction will ensure we can achieve this task better while being responsible for your hard-earned taxes.”
The EPA said the cuts would save the government $748.8 million.

As part of the restructuring, EPA said it plans to open a new office of applied science and environmental solutions to replace the R&D office, saying the new office will allow it to “focus on research more than ever before.”
This is a week after the Supreme Court issued its ruling, clearing the way for the government to carry out massive layoffs.
Justin Chen, chairman of the Committee of the American Government Employees Federation, represents thousands of EPA employees, calling the Office of Research and Development “the heart and brain of the EPA.”

“Without it, we would not be able to assess the impact on human health and the environment. Its destruction will undermine public health in our country,” Chen said.
