Taylor smiled when asked if performance at this stage of her career might redefine expectations. “I hope so. It’s always a plan: smart,” she said. “But sometimes I’m just in a war. Taylor also pays homage to travelling Irish supporters who are once again working in the garden. “These people are spending their hard-earned money to support me,” she said. “It just means the world. Looking back on the journey, it’s amazing life: headlines from Madison Square Gardens sold out on all-female cards. These are nights I dreamt about as a kid.”
Taylor admitted she felt “a little bit of pressure” when she was about to enter Friday’s fight, but Taylor said her experiences in high-stakes games helped keep her makeup. “Every battle I’ve been involved in in recent years has been a huge event,” she said. “When you raise your hand, there’s always some relief, but it’s just total joy. It’s a tough sport, so it’s a great feeling when the hard work pays off.”
The only 95–95 scorecard of this battle attracted some eyebrows, including Taylor’s. “I was surprised to hear this,” she said. “But that’s OK. At the end of the day, my hands were raised. That’s what I care about.”
