Secret Service suspends six agents following assassination attempts against Trump in July 2024

Gunners try to take six Secret Service agents without pay or benefits suspended President Donald Trump Life at the Pennsylvania rally last July.

The agency faces serious criticism after security failure, which has caused gunman Thomas Crooks to fire on the stage of the rally Butler, Pennsylvania, July 13, 2024.

“The Secret Service is totally responsible for Butler,” Quinn told CBS. “Butler is an operational failure and we are focusing today on making sure it never happens.”

He also said the agency is focusing on the “root causes” of operational failure and addressing “the deficiencies that put us in this situation.”

Since Butler’s rally, Quinn said the Secret Service has introduced new military-grade drones and mobile command posts to improve radio communications with local law enforcement.

The agency faced more criticism a few weeks later when Trump made a second assassination attempt in West Palm Beach, Florida. Despite the cessation, Kimberly Cheatle, then director of secret services, resigned and the agency conducted several investigations, Congressional hearing.

The bipartisan House Task Force released a 180-page report in December, calling Butler’s incident “preventable”, citing “established” leadership and training issues that “create an environment where failure can be safely”.

Legislators also noted in the report that the Secret Service did not coordinate or plan with local law enforcement.
