Ryan Routh’s federal trial is the defendant’s presidential assassin Donald Trump Last year, at his West Palm Beach Golf Club, it is scheduled to begin Thursday.

After several rounds Jury selection Monday began Monday with a team of 12 jurors and four alternates sitting on Wednesday. The group consists of six white women, four white men, one black woman and one black man. The alternating people consist of two white women and two white men.

The opening argument is scheduled for Thursday in the federal court in Fort Pierce, and prosecutors are expected to file a case promptly.

By the end of Tuesday, the court had dismissed more than 70 of the original 180 prospective jurors, many with strong opinions on Trump’s opinion, connections to law enforcement or concerns about impartiality.

Routh pleaded not guilty to federal charges trying to assassinate a major presidential candidate and assault a federal official. Prosecutors say Secret Service agents stopped him near Trump’s golf course, armed with AK-style rifles West Palm Beach September 2024. The attempt came months after Trump was shot and killed, and survived the assassination attempt by Butler, Pennsylvania.

The trial is expected to last two to four weeks, with Trump-appointed judge Aileen Cannon on his behalf.
