Legislators are violent, Charlie Kirk calls for prayer after assassination

Lawmakers bridged the partisan gap Wednesday after news that 31-year-old conservative activist Charlie Kirk was killed with a gunshot wound.

Prayers for Kirk’s recovery on social media were quick and quick to pray for his family and widely condemned the political violence of Republicans and Democrats.

“This is devastating news,” said House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.). “Political violence has taken one of the strongest voices on the conservative side, and it is a huge sadness. Charlie is my close friend and a confidant who will be deeply missed and we need every political leader to condemn the violence and do it loudly. The problem is in the heart of mankind, and it has been in trouble.”

President Donald Trump confirmed the news about the truth society and said: “No one has a better understanding or possession of the youth heart of the United States of America than Charlie.”

Kirk was shot dead Wednesday afternoon at the University of Utah’s “America Comeback Tour” event. The university initially said a suspect was detained but later announced that the person had been released.

Campus police asked students to call the hotline and accompany them Wednesday afternoon.

Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) called Kirk “American Patriot, the inspiration for countless young people to stand up and defend the eternal truth that makes our nation great.”

“This murder was a cowardly act of violence, an attack on freelance champions like Charlie, gathering students in civil debates and all the Americans who are working to save our country,” he said.

“The terrorists won’t win,” he continued. “Charlie Will. Please pray with me for his wife Erika and their children. May the Supreme Court be quick.”

His death comes from a wave of high-profile political assassination attempts amid an increasingly polarized political environment.

Trump has made two separate assassinations in each other in weeks while running for re-election in 2024. Meanwhile, a Minnesota gunman shot and killed state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, while one gunman killed another state legislator last June.
