Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has made the most intense criticism of her former boss, saying that Joe Biden has decided to seek a second term “reckless” in excerpts from his upcoming memoir.

“‘It’s Joe and Jill’s decision.’ We both say, like a spell, as if we were all hypnotized,” Harris wrote in her book. “Is it grace or reckless? Looking back, I think it’s reckless.”

Harris also describes moments when she was upset or rejected honors about the work of the Biden team, published in the Atlantic.

The BBC has contacted Biden’s office for comment.

Harris wrote that as vice president, she was in a “worst position” and told Biden not to run for president again.

“I know if I advise him not to run, it would be incredible self-service,” she wrote. “He would think it was naked ambition, perhaps toxic disloyalty, even if my only message was: Don’t let another person win.”

Atlantic Published a 3,000-word excerpt from Harris’s book – The title refers to the time of her failed presidential campaign. The book will be published in full later this month.

Biden withdrew from the 2024 match after a bleak debate performance with then Republican candidate Donald Trump.

The debate performance raised questions about Biden’s age and mental health to lead the country. Harris eventually lost Trump’s election.

Harris wrote that Biden, 81, chose to run for reelection “should be more than just a personal decision.”

“The stakes are too high. This is not a choice that should be left to the individual’s self, ambition,” she wrote.

She denied that there was a “big plot” to hide Biden’s vulnerability and described the former president as “a smart man, experienced, with deep faith, able to perform the president’s duties.”

“But at 81, Joe felt tired. That was when his age showed in his physical and verbal falls,” she wrote.

Harris also claimed the White House failed to respond adequately to her critics.

The former vice president recalled private companies to provide billions of dollars in investment commitments to Latin American countries to help address the root causes of immigration.

Harris wrote that despite this, Republicans “misunderstood my role as ‘Border Tsar.”

“No one in the White House [communications] The team helped me effectively explain backwards what I was really responsible for doing and didn’t emphasize any progress I made. ” she wrote.

Harris also described a trip to Texas in July 2024 after suffering a devastating hurricane and listened to Biden’s television broadcast in a hotel room in Houston.

“It’s a great speech, drawing on the history of the president, where you can find your place,” she wrote. “But as my staff later pointed out, there was an 11-minute address before he mentioned me, nine minutes.”

Both Biden and Harris ran for the Democratic nomination in 2020, and Biden chose his former rival as his running mate. Their votes beat Donald Trump and Mike Pence in November of that year.

Despite critics’ proposals that he was too old to be in his second four-year term, Biden introduced re-election in 2023.

Harris plans to take a 107-day book tour in 15 cities, including the UK and Canada. The book is expected to start selling on September 23.
