According to the South Korean Foreign Ministry, South Korean workers detained in the United States may see their departure delays in a massive immigration attack at a modern factory in Georgia.

Officials said their return to their homes became difficult due to the situation in the U.S. side” and negotiated to ensure they could leave the U.S. as soon as possible.

The worker is expected to take a rental plane at about 14:30 local time on Wednesday (18:30 GMT).

The White House said earlier that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will meet with South Korean Foreign Secretary Joe Hyun in Washington on Wednesday morning.

Before heading to the U.S. on Monday, Joe said he would work with the Trump administration to prevent the incident.

Last week, U.S. officials detained 475 people — more than 300 of South Korean nationals — who they said they worked illegally in a battery facility, one of the state’s largest foreign investment projects.

Factory workers talk to the BBC About the panic and chaos during the raid. The vast majority of the workers detained were mechanics who installed production lines on site and were hired by contractors, the employee said.

South Korea, an ally near Asia, has pledged to invest billions in the U.S. in part to offset tariffs.

The timing of the raid has attracted the attention of Seoul as the two governments engage in sensitive trade negotiations.

The White House defended the modern factory, dismissing concerns that the raid could prevent foreign investment.

On Sunday, U.S. President Donald Trump mentioned the raid in a social media post and called on foreign companies to hire Americans.

Trump said if foreign companies respect their immigration laws, the U.S. government will allow foreign companies to bring them into the country “quickly, legally possible.”
