New York City Socialist Mayor Candidate Zohran Mamdani The response to journalists’ questions on social media to his public safety platform faces objections, critics say there are few details.
Marcia Kramer of CBS New York asked Mamdani over the weekend: “What will your public safety plan look like? Explain to our audience.”
“Of course, before the West India march, I visited the Little Caribbean and I spoke with many residents of East Flatbush who expressed concern about gun violence,” Mamdani replied. “And I met many New Yorkers who were part of the treatment of gun violence, and they told me how important it is to have a comprehensive approach to reducing gun violence and to be frank about it from our entire city.”
Mamdani went on to say “work with the police” and “work with the crisis management system” and “use cure methods”.

“All of these things can be secure,” Mamdani continued.
“One of the young men I met, who was actually under attack, was at Lincoln Hospital, was considering revenge, and it was when he got to know the program. They recruited him to join the program, not another act of violence, but now a mentor to other people who have just gone through the same process.”

Mamdani faces widespread criticism of previous calls for the return of police and his resistance to more police officers in the city, criticizing him on social media for lacking specific details in answering questions.

Mamdani also explained in about 20 minutes of interview that his opponent was attacking his “mythical version” of himself when his opponent criticized his 2020 grant to refund police calls, and that his past tweets were “out of touch” with his current platform.
