Angel Island in the past decade San Francisco The Bay has been the “growing population” of coyotes described by the state park. Late last month, park workers had a fascinating glimpse of the animals’ journey to the island.
Angel Island staff traveling by boat saw a coyote swimming along the Raccoon Strait and photographed it on a deep waterway between the island and the mainland of Marin County. The coyote is about a quarter mile from the coast and returns to the island safely, and the park is released online.

The park shared videos of online sightings last month, which attracted curiosity and attention from people who are unfamiliar with animal swimming habits.
“Coyotes are powerful swimmers,” the park writes. “Park staff work hard every day to protect coyotes, mainly by teaching the public what to do and not do when they encounter coyotes.”
