Hamas discusses our “thinking” about the Gaza ceasefire after Trump’s warning

Hamas said it had “some ideas” to reach a ceasefire agreement from the U.S. through mediators.

Palestinian armed groups said they were discussing how to develop these ideas, noting that it was ready to release its remaining 48 people in Gaza in exchange for a “clear” declaration to end the war.

A Palestinian official told the BBC that the U.S. plans to release hostages within the first 48 hours of the 60-day truce in exchange for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons and to negotiate sincerely on a permanent ceasefire.

This comes after President Donald Trump’s “last warning” to Hamas agree to a deal. He said Israel had accepted his terms without providing details.

Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said it was ready to agree to an agreement to end the war, which included the release of all hostages – only 20 people were considered alive, and Hamas’ disarmament.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that about one million Palestinians living in the famine Gaza city immediately evacuated as the Israeli military took an offensive to conquer it.

“In the past two days, we have lowered 50 top terrorists, and this is just the beginning of the ground operations in Gaza,” he said in a video. “I told the residents of Gaza: You have been warned to get out of there.”

The hospital said the Israeli attacks were killed in Gaza on Monday, including 25 people in the city of Gaza and elsewhere in the north.

The Israeli military said four soldiers were killed in the battle in northern Gaza.

On Sunday night, Hamas issued a statement saying that “some ideas from the U.S. side were received through mediators, aiming to reach a ceasefire agreement” and welcomed the initiative.

It added: “The movement is constantly engaging with intermediaries to develop these ideas into a comprehensive agreement that meets the needs of our people.”

Hamas said it was ready to immediately negotiate the release of all hostages in the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel in exchange for “a clear declaration of an end to the war, a full evacuation from Gaza, and the establishment of a Palestine Independence Commission to manage Gaza”.

Earlier in the day, U.S. President Donald Trump wrote the Truth Social article: “Everyone wants to take hostages home. Everyone wants this war to end! Israel has accepted my conditions. Now Hamas accepts it too.”

“I warned Hamas about the consequences of not accepting it. This is my last warning, and there will be no more!”

A senior Palestinian official familiar with the ceasefire efforts told the BBC that all hostages will be released within the first 48 hours of the 60-day truce in exchange for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons, including those serving in prisons and other lengthy clauses, and sentenced from California.

The proposal also includes personal guarantees from the U.S. president that both sides will negotiate in good faith at the end of the war, according to the official.

Officials said the negotiations will cover key issues in the first two weeks of the armistice, including the disarmament of Hamas, the establishment of an independent governing body or administrative committee in the Gaza Strip and arrangements for the evacuation of Israeli forces. Humanitarian aid will also be open to Gaza.

The framework appears to be aimed at avenues to establish broader solutions when addressing direct humanitarian and security issues.

Israeli media quoted political sources as saying that Israel is “seriously considering” the U.S. plan, but Hamas may also have trouble accepting it.

“President Trump clearly stated yesterday that Israel said yes to his proposal. We are ready to accept a complete agreement that will end the war based on the decision of the cabinet.

“Two things have to happen. One, the return of our hostages… [Two]Hamas must put his arms down. ”

Defense Minister Katz also warned Hamas: “Release the hostages and put down your weapons – or Gaza will be destroyed and you will be annihilated.”

The Israeli military has been intensifying air and ground attacks on Gaza City, and a four-story high-rise building was destroyed on Monday in a few days of air strikes.

A BBC-verified videotape shows that the Al-Roya 2 building collapsed after being hit by two projectiles.

Before the strike, Israeli troops ordered dozens of displaced families who had been living inside buildings to evacuate those who lived in tents in the surrounding areas.

The military said Hamas fighters were responsible for installing “intelligence gathering means and explosive devices” to operate near buildings and “using it throughout the war to plan and promote the fight against terrorist attacks. [Israeli] strength”.

“We don’t know how to do it and where to go. The bombing is crazy,” Janine Zoarob, a displaced woman living in one of the tents, told Reuters news agency. “I’m afraid of my kids, I’m afraid of myself, I’m afraid of the people around me.”

On Saturday, Israel directed displaced persons to head to a newly designated “humanitarian zone” in southern Gaza for “safety.” The area is less than 43 square kilometers (17 square meters), which is equivalent to 12% of the territory.

The military said there was basic humanitarian infrastructure there. However, the United Nations has said that the tent camps there are already overcrowded and unsafe, and that hospitals operate more than capacity.

Tom Fletcher, the head of humanitarianism, also warned that windows are closing rapidly to prevent famine in Gaza (which global food security experts confirmed last month) spread to the central city of Deir Al-Balah and the southern city of Khan from the end of this month.

He called for allowing humanitarian aid to be allowed on unhindered and scale, and to protect civilians, ceasefires and hostage releases.

The Israeli military launched a campaign in an attack led by Hamas on October 7, 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed and another 251 were taken hostage.

According to the Hamas-Ministry of Operations in the region, at least 64,522 people have been killed in Israel’s attacks in Gaza since then.

The ministry also said that 393 people have died so far due to malnutrition and hunger, including six in the past 24 hours.
