U.S. President Donald Trump said Israel has agreed to a “necessary condition” for a final ceasefire in Gaza.
Trump said in a proposed deal “we will work with all parties to end the war” in an article on the Truth Society without elaborating on what the conditions are.
“The Egyptians who are working on peace will make this final offer. I hope … Hamas has reached this deal because it won’t get better – it will only get worse.”
Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon said Israel was “absolutely” ready for a ceasefire, but it is unclear whether Hamas will accept the terms of the proposed deal.
Trump’s announcement comes ahead of next week’s meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with the U.S. president saying he will be “very determined”.
The U.S. president said on Tuesday that he believes Netanyahu wants to end hostilities in Gaza.
Trump added: “He thought. I can tell you he thought. I think we’ll have an agreement next week.”
Israeli Secretary of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer will meet with U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff on Tuesday with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Washington Vice President Judd Vance.
Daniel said on the BBC News Channel that Hamas is “playing hard balls.”
“We are putting pressure on Hamas and if they don’t come to the table, the only option we will have to take hostages is to put more military pressure on it,” Danon said.
He added: “When the hostages come home, the war will end.”
About 50 Israeli hostages are still in Gaza, and at least 20 are considered alive.
Last week, senior Hamas officials told BBC mediators about a new ceasefire and hostage release agreement in Gaza, but negotiations with Israel remained stagnant.
Israel said the conflict could end only after Hamas was completely demolished. Hamas has long called for a permanent truce and a complete evacuation of Israel from Gaza.

In March, the previous ceasefire deal collapsed when Israel launched a new strike on Gaza. The Israeli military described the action as a “preemptive strike…based on Hamas’ willingness to carry out terrorist attacks, establish force and re-arming operations.”
The ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas (starting on January 19) was set up in three phases, but did not surpass the first phase.
The second phase includes the establishment of a permanent ceasefire, the return of the remaining hostages in Gaza in exchange for Palestinians imprisoned in Israel, and the complete evacuation of Israeli forces from Gaza.
