Founded in December 2019, RJEM is led by Dr. Jennifer McCray of the Erikson Institute and Dr. Danny Bernard Martin of the University of Illinois Chicago. The Erikson Institute’s press release in January 2023 said the project “focused on addressing systemic racial injustice in math education for young learners.”

Mamdani, a self-proclaimed democratic socialist, shocked observers when he received a democratic nomination for New York City mayor in June.
Despite his left-wing position, Mamdani has been supported by Rep. Jerry Nadler. Meanwhile, another Democrat, Chuck Schumer, was more cautious about Mamdani.

Mamdani also received support from DN.Y. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who hosted an event in Brooklyn on Saturday. Bernie Sandersi-vt.
Fox News Digital contacted the Heising-Simons Foundation for comment, but received no immediate response.
