As they say, you can only defeat the team in front of you. You can only play with the guys you have. And, you can only overcome the challenges you face.

When the U.S. men’s national team gathered at the CONCACAF Gold Cup, which began in early June, the success in the regional championship was Defining tricky For the seven-time champion. After all, they will appear in the absence of 10 regulars and participate in an event that offers little to no one in the world’s strongest opposition.

However, this deep dilution, sometimes the ordinary experimental side has passed the test after the test.

On the group stage, the Americans played well-organized opponents. Vibrant opponent; divine to opponents. It beat everyone – that is, Saudi Arabia, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago.

On Sunday evening in Minneapolis, USMNT at Beat Costa Rica in the quarterfinals On Wednesday, he was on a semi-final date with Guatemala. Mauricio Pochettino’s team survived a 4-3 free throw by overcoming their first deficit, matching their passion and energy.

So Yonkers simply avoided being the third favorite to be the free throw in only this quarter-final, which came when Panama lost to Honduras on Saturday, and Canada was bounced by Guatemala earlier on Sunday.

In the 10th minute, American beleaguered defender Max Arfsten blocked the cross in his own box and then clumsily tried to clean it up, kicking Kenneth Vargas, who sought connection. Francisco Calvo costa rica Be ahead early.

But on a man-made grass at Bank of America Stadium, on a slow grass that makes players slide and slide, the United States exhibits the kind of character that has often been depressed for years – in another mid-air Golden Cup field.

Half an hour later, Juan Pablo Vargas clamped Malik Tillman behind a cross in the box. Tillman was somehow both the most influential and unfortunate player in the United States, but he kicked his own penalty kick but threw it out of the left-handed outpost. This is his first attempt at playing football as a senior professional.

However, Diego Luna scored his first national team goal in a big deflection game. A few minutes after the halftime, Arfsten of All led the United States again, and again, with heroic holding performances by Tillman and Patrick Agyemang.

Costa Rica’s crafty veteran Keylor Navas received a great save after a few minutes of Chris Richards’ header. Then deflect an arfsten’s cross to ticos’ beam. The United States has never really come close to the third goal.

This will regret this neglect.

After a series of defensive hits in the U.S. box, Carlos Mora had a clear shot in Freese and Alonso Martínez, able to run freely on the 71st minute rebound and sweep to balance. Martínez beat the far post almost at the 85th minute.

However, at the time of punishment, Tillman redeems himself and Damion Downs won the championship in the sixth round of kicks. Freese saved no less than three times, and his tongue celebrated and nodded to the crowd, obviously having a pleasant evening. “Punishment is my business,” he announced Fox after the game. “I’m working on penalties on a plane to Minnesota. I’ve been working on them all week. I’m ready if I need to.”

While the early elimination here would have caused problems with the Inquisition and more existing issues regarding the state of the U.S. program, the issue of safety leading to the next round is bigger than the appearance of the 17th Golden Cup semifinals and ultimately more useful.

Over the past year, a team that seems to be deflated, uninterested and generally bored looks completely different on Sunday. Feisty. Pressed fiercely. Quickly attract opponent’s face. Luna made herself a favorite of Pochettino, as he broke his nose early on during his tenure in Argentina. Now, this attitude seems to have spread. Sebastian Berhalter, the son of Pochettino’s ex and a surprise starter for the game, may have missed the penalty kick and was sometimes not neat on the ball, but he seemed to drive the strength of the team in every melee of his family watching the team.

The inexperienced American team no longer has the appearance of an incoordinated outfit and may be accused of not caring. These players will strengthen these players through intense games like this.

“I think it’s a good thing for this group of players to have that kind of experience,” Pochettino said after the game. “It’s priceless because it’s the reality when you’re in a big game, things can happen, and it’s important that they start building the experience together.”

Americans face three major setbacks – donating early fines and targets; missing their own punishment; and a late equalizer – and bounce back from everyone, enduring under the pressure of swelling. “We show great character,” Pochettino said. “Okay, we [give away] fine? Have we missed the fine? The team keeps moving forward and believes in the way we play. At some point, we did really well. We started playing like a team and showing quality. ”

The most important thing is not silverware, but rebuilding its culture and confidence. It might also get all of this stuff.
