Minneapolis City Councilman Jeremiah Ellison said he would continue to earn six-figure salary despite accepting a full-time scholarship from Harvard University.
Ellison, son of Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, Now facing criticism from his fellow parliamentarians who pointed out that he would not be able to attend the meeting and make the most of his role. Ellison currently earns about $110,000 for his position on the board, and his scholarship at Harvard is a paid position.
“I’m very disappointed with this and I hope my colleagues don’t allow this to happen – what happened in Northern Minneapolis is once again bad for them,” Council member Latrisha Vetaw said in a press conference last month.
She added: “If there is no Council member Ellison sitting on these committees, we will represent these committees in North Minneapolis.

Ellison said he will return twice a month to attend city council meetings and will actually attend the committee meetings he designated.
The Council stipulates that members are required to physically attend meetings and vote.
“I wonder if there are other employees who have been granted this privilege,” Councilman Linea Palmisano told KSTP. “And, maybe, I don’t think they will be allowed to have paid leave.”

Ellison’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.
Ellison has In recent years, it has been a radical left-wing influence in Minneapolis politics. He announced in 2020: “I am here to formally announce my support for Antifa.”
