Freeman, 38, became the chief football coach at Notre Dame in December 2021, marrying his wife Joanna Freemanin 2010. The couple met with Marcus as a star guard during Marcus’s time at Ohio State. At the time, Joanna was attending another nearby university.
Joanna is a former news reporter for Columbus’ WBNS-channel 10 and is now a full-time mother of the couple’s six children: son Vinny17 years old, daughter Siena12 years old, son Gino,11, son Nico,9, daughter Capri,7, son Rocco6.
Marcus also has a daughter Bria18, from previous relationships.
Joanna and all six kids were the forwards and centers of the celebration at the Marcus Introductory Press Conference in South Bend in 2021. Since then, Marcus has frequently shared family highlights and milestones for Irish people on social media.

Joanna has been around Marcus amidst the ups and downs of her game and coaching career – but she admits it’s not easy.

Marcus Freeman’s son Vinny

Vinny, 17, is busy following his father’s sports footsteps.
A senior at Penn High School in Mishawaka, Indiana plays the safety of the school’s football team.
Vinny is also an excellent wrestler, making an official visit to Cornell University in August 2024, and then announced his official commitment to the Ivy League school in April 2025.
“They say to be the best, you have to beat the best,” Vinny told South Bend Tribune In February 2024. “I want to be the best.”

Siena, now 12, became a beloved part of the Cincinnati Panda football family when Marcus was defensive coordinator for the school from 2017 to 2020.

Marcus also passed on his love for football to his son Gino, 11 years old.
“This is Freeman’s official football season,” Marcus released via Instagram In July 2018, Gino and Vinny wore football helmets and took a photo with their father.
Gino spent some time with his father in May 2019 when they played baseball with the Cincinnati Reds.

Nico, 9, celebrated his 4th birthday with some pizza, his siblings and a group of friends, including the head coach of Cincinnati, Luke Fickell – July 2019.
“Happy 4th birthday of our Nico!” Marcus shared via Instagramshow off the photos of the entire crew.

Capri, 4, met her smiling siblings in June 2017. “Welcome to this world and our family Capri!” Marcus wrote via Instagram There is also a picture of her brother Vinny sitting on the sofa with her sister Siena and her other brothers Gino and Nico.
Of course, all the kids are decorated in the University of Cincinnati gear.

Shortly after his birth, Rocco, 6, celebrated the holiday with his parents and five siblings.
