Bacon, a retired Air Force brigade general who did not seek reelection in 2026, said the discussion with Putin proved futile and said Putin was not serious about the deal.
“We have seen zero results for the negotiations as far as Putin is willing to compromise,” Bacon said. “While I think it is worth seeking for negotiations at first, it shows that Putin does not want peace.”

“Putin managed to avoid U.S. sanctions in Alaska and was content with Ukraine,” Rough News Motherd told Fox News Digital Soninger. “But he also recognized that the United States wanted the war to end, so he proposed a proposal aimed at calling Washington, hoping that the United States would put pressure on Ukraine to accept its terms. If he could divide the transatlantic alliance along the way, it would at least help him avoid other U.S. asylum.”
