Margo Price Living in Nashville for over 20 years, she never recorded a full album there despite her extensive supply of legendary studios. For her fifth LP, A tenacious womanshe decided to change that.
Price, 42, exclusively told US Weekly. “I want to do things outside the box. I don’t want anyone trying to make me sound too rural political or too productive. But now I really feel that all the narrative, everything is in my hands, so it makes sense to finally record here because Nashville is part of my DNA, part of my DNA, for better or worse.”
However, the price is not just about choosing any old studio A tenacious woman. She and her band went to Nashville’s iconic RCA Studio A, a national historic landmark Dolly Parton,,,,, Merle Haggard,,,,, Nancy Sinatra,,,,, Charlie Pride and Loretta Lynn. After turning to rock and psychedelic boys on the 2023 Wandering, it’s an ideal price to return to her original country sound.
Price told us. “History was created in that studio and it was so special to be able to continue and be a part of that history.”
A tenacious woman Apparently a new album, but there are nods in the history of country music. Price is George Jones The classic “I just shouldn’t die”, and then the closer, “Kiss you goodbye”, is a Waylen Jennings Covering his wife, Jesse Cottersuggest her to sing. (Price produced Colter’s 2023 album, The Edge of Forever. ) Several tracks and Rodney Crowelland “Don’t let the asshole down” is directly inspired by the words Kris Kristofferson Once said Siné ad O’Connor She commented on the Pope when she faced the rebound.
Price explained, “That song was written a few years ago and it felt like they had reached this complete boiling point in things.” “But, to some extent, it really was like a spell to me.” [has to say]. …Whenever you try to get out of the box and do something different, people will give it an opinion. Actually, the way I look is if you have a hater, you are doing the right thing because you are getting people’s attention. ”
Price has faced her share of haters for years, refusing to remain silent about politics in a genre where the most friendly artists seem to adopt a policy of “no question, no words” to any potential controversy. She also spoke out bluntly about the problems she faced in the music industry itself, having previously sang a former manager “Old enough that he could have been my father” on her debut album “This Town Toble” The daughter of a farmer in the Midwest).
“[With] The daughter of a farmer in the MidwestI’m writing about frustration in the music industry, but I haven’t even taken advantage of it. so [“Don’t Let the Bastards Get You Down”] Just a very popular song. ”
Among fans of “alternative” country artists, the price is so Sturgill Simpson and Taylor Childes (The latter appears in the heartbreaking tenacious woman duo “Love me as I did before”), and she believes her outspokenness may have lost some career opportunities – but she won’t do anything different.
She told me: “For other little girls, it’s important to see someone say, ‘I’m a woman. I’m completely in my own body. And I don’t have to try to look younger than me.’ us. “I want to [this album] The title is because of my mind. Everything I do sometimes turns one after another, like changing genres, like talking about my ideas about social causes, and trying to be a cultural worker. It was my loss, but I was very proud of the career I built, so that’s why I wanted this title. And, just because of the way the world is now. We are taking away women’s rights. We are trying to portray trans people as threats or problems, and I really just want to say with great pride, “I am a woman and we should have our own rights too.” It would be great if some people stand up and shout with us. ”
Last year, Price’s political opinion on her attracted the heat: Her nose worked. In July 2024, she revealed that she underwent rhinoplasty and diaphragm surgery the previous year after more than one dyspnea. But she just doesn’t like the look of it, which is too much for critics who want to tell her that the feminists won’t be dissatisfied with their looks.
“It feels like you’re not good enough, and because of the look you look, you’re never good enough.” Eloquent alternative posts then. “But no makeup, no clothes, no hairstyle will make me good enough because my problem is messing around my face.”
Now, Price said she felt “light” since she talked about the program. “I feel like I’ve freed up so much mental space that I don’t care about it anymore,” she explained. “Like I always hide behind a pair of dark sunglasses, I don’t smile in the picture because I don’t like the look of the face. I’ll tell the lighting guy, ‘I want the lights really low, I don’t want me to have bright lights.’ That’s really a problem.”
A year later, it seems very quaint, and the current celebrity Kylie Jenner Sharing their exact Breast augmentation standards On Instagram, but Plastic Surgery Transparency is not that popular in the national world (exception Of course it’s Parton).
“I just want people to know that everyone is doing things. Even [they say] They didn’t do anything…they were, and I’m glad I could come out. “I must have a few haters saying negative things about this. That’s good too. People are allowed to dislike anything they want. ”
Price has also been making a voice in recent years when it comes to quitting alcohol (but still using mushrooms). It’s also difficult in the country world, where whiskey is as popular as heartbreaking songs. In fact, her 2015 breakthrough single was called “Hurtin’ (on the bottle).
“It’s a completely different approach to emerge step by step,” Price said. Give up alcohol. “When I get drunk, I write down things and then look up the next day, ‘What am I talking about?’ At the same time, when I get drunk with my friend, I write “hertin” (on the bottle), which is probably still my most famous song.
But while Price no longer shoots the bottle herself, she has no plans to take out the songs for drinking from the rotation.
“I’ve got the right to sing,” she said. “Because I’m really alive. I was writing it at the time.”
A tenacious woman Friday, August 29. price Wild inside The tour will begin in St. Louis on October 23. Tickets available here.
